South Korea Ranks Among Top Travel Destinations for 2023, Driven by K-Content

South Korea has solidified its status as a must-visit travel destination this year, propelled by the global popularity of K-content. According to the 2026 Travel Pulse survey conducted by the global travel platform Klook on MZ (Millennial + Z) generation travelers worldwide, South Korea ranked fifth overall.
When broken down by generation, South Korea claimed the third spot among Generation Z travelers, following Japan and Australia. Notably, respondents from Japans Millennial and Z generations ranked South Korea as their number one desired travel destination. Respondents from major Asian countries, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, also listed South Korea as their top choice for additional travel destinations, indicating that Korea is becoming a preferred travel spot beyond just event-driven interest.
The survey also highlighted South Koreas competitive edge in terms of travel spending intentions. Travelers planning to stay in South Korea for seven nights or more indicated an average spending intention of $1,668 (approximately 2.44 million KRW), surpassing Japans $1,572 (around 2.28 million KRW). This suggests that South Korea is being chosen as a travel destination more for its content and experiences rather than cost.
The upward trend in rankings is quite evident, as South Korea moved up from eighth place in the previous years survey to fifth place this time, reflecting a growing global interest.
In an effort to stimulate inbound tourism, Klook is actively supporting partner companies through consulting and operational assistance, running a new business development team, and launching tailored travel promotions for various countries. They are also expanding collaborations with local tourism startups through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea Tourism Startup Association. This foundation is aimed at fostering diverse and innovative travel experiences in South Korea.
