Motif Technologies Selected for Governments Proprietary AI Foundation Model Project

Motif Technologies has been selected as an elite team for the governments proprietary AI foundation model project. The company stated, "Our philosophy of pure proprietary design that does not borrow the structure of foreign open-source models has received positive evaluations." They also expressed their ambition to gradually develop a multimodal foundation model encompassing text, images, video, and audio, and expand into physical AI, aiming to secure a globally competitive proprietary model.
On the 20th, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced Motif Technologies as an additional elite team for the proprietary AI foundation model project. The newly formed consortium includes Motif Technologies, More, Crowdworks, Endlight, Seoul National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Group, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Hanyang University Industry-Academic Cooperation Group, Samil PwC, and the National Heritage Promotion Agency.
Jung-Hwan Lim, CEO of Motif Technologies, remarked, "Despite limited resources, we have proven our global competitiveness through independent design. I am confident that by combining the resources supported by this project with the capabilities of the consortium, we can achieve results that surpass existing teams. We aim to build a domestic AI ecosystem through extensive open-sourcing of models and software, creating success stories across all industrial and public sectors, thereby contributing to Koreas leap to become an AI G3 nation."
The Ministry of Science and ICT will provide Motif Technologies with essential resources for developing a global-level proprietary AI model, including GPUs (a total of 768 B200 units) and data support (approximately 1.75 billion KRW for individual data construction and processing, and about 10 billion KRW for joint purchasing and utilization of data).
Trillion Labs, which also applied for the additional recruitment alongside Motif, was not selected. Trillion Labs expressed disappointment over the outcome of the proprietary AI foundation model project.
