Trumps Asia Visit Schedule Includes Meetings with Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea Leaders

The schedule for the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and President Lee Jae-myung of South Korea has been revealed. Prior to meeting with President Lee, President Trump will meet with the Prime Minister of Japan, and afterward, he will engage in discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
On the 23rd (local time), White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt disclosed President Trumps Asia itinerary during a briefing. The visit will last for five days and four nights, covering Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea.
President Trump is scheduled to depart Washington D.C. aboard Air Force One on the night of the 24th (daytime in Asia, the 25th) and arrive in Malaysia on the morning of the 26th. He will hold a bilateral meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and attend a working dinner with ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) leaders. After spending one night in Malaysia, he will depart for Japan on the 27th, where he will meet with newly elected Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on the 28th. This will be the first U.S.-Japan summit since Takaichi took office.
Takaichi is regarded as a hardline conservative politician, which may align closely with President Trumps views. However, the potential for strained relationships with neighboring countries like South Korea and China presents a risk factor for the U.S., which seeks to strengthen trilateral cooperation among the U.S., South Korea, and Japan.
After a two-night stay in Japan, President Trump will move to South Korea on the 29th. Although his stay in South Korea is shorter than in Japan, it is considered the highlight of this trip. On the first day of his visit, he will meet with President Lee Jae-myung. This meeting comes about two months after President Lees visit to the U.S. on August 25.
The meeting will take place in Gyeongju, the designated venue for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. Although President Trump will not attend the APEC summit itself, he will deliver a keynote speech at the APEC CEO luncheon on that day and participate in a working dinner with the leaders that evening.
