Trump to Visit South Korea for Summit with President Yoon on September 29

On September 29, U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit South Korea for a meeting with President Yoon Suk-yeol, as announced by the White House on September 23.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt revealed the details of President Trumps itinerary during a briefing. Levitt stated, "President Trump will travel to Busan on Wednesday morning, after which he will hold a bilateral meeting with the President of South Korea." She also mentioned that Trump would deliver a keynote speech at a luncheon for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEOs and later attend a working dinner with other leaders.
While Levitt mentioned Busan, South Korean government officials clarified that the U.S.-South Korea summit is expected to take place in Gyeongju, where the APEC summit will be held. There may have been confusion regarding the locations for the APEC summit, the U.S.-South Korea summit in Gyeongju, and the U.S.-China summit in Busan. The White House and State Department have yet to respond to inquiries regarding this matter.
This meeting between President Yoon and President Trump marks their second encounter since their previous summit on August 25, approximately two months ago. Following the U.S.-South Korea summit and APEC activities on the 29th, President Trump is expected to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping the next day before departing for Washington, D.C. that evening.
As President Trump finalizes his visit to South Korea, there is keen interest in whether the upcoming summit will lead to advancements in the ongoing trade negotiations between the two countries. After returning from negotiations in Washington, D.C. on September 22, Kim Yong-beom, the head of the policy office, told reporters, "With APEC just around the corner and time running out, if we expect an agreement to be reached at APEC, we still have a long way to go."
He also emphasized, "Negotiations can sometimes make significant progress at the last minute, so we will strive to the end." However, Kim did not elaborate on specific issues regarding the negotiations.
