Dexter Studio Enhances Emotional Depth in The King’s Affection through Digital Color Correction
Dexter Studio, a comprehensive content specialist, announced on the 20th its technical involvement in the digital color correction (DI) for the hit film The King’s Affection, enhancing the emotional flow of the narrative.
Set in 1457 at Cheongnyeongpo, The King’s Affection tells the story of a village chief who voluntarily goes into exile to revive his community and a young deposed king who finds himself in the same predicament. Directed by Jang Hang-jun, who is making his debut in historical dramas, the film has received accolades for its artistic quality and mass appeal, supported by a stellar cast including Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae, and Jeon Mi-do.
The film surpassed one million viewers just five days after its release and, during the Lunar New Year holiday, garnered overwhelming support, becoming the first film of 2026 to reach four million viewers.
Dexters digital color correction work meticulously adjusted emotional tones, enhancing the audiences immersion in the story. The company focused on a unique color design for The King’s Affection that distinctly showcases the emotional flow of characters, as opposed to the typical formal aesthetics of historical dramas.
Park Jin-young, a colorist at Dexters DI department, explained, "We aimed for a structure where emotions are visible first, while colors take a step back. Our goal was to make the audience feel that they can see the characters hearts on the screen."
Notably, in this project, rather than emphasizing dramatic contrasts in scenes where characters gaze at each other, a subtle reduction in contrast was applied to softly adjust the texture of the space, setting it apart from conventional approaches.
Meanwhile, Dexter is expanding its technical involvement portfolio beyond films and dramas, recently entering the post-production market for short dramas, and delving into various genres including animation, variety shows, and short-form content.
