Shin Ji-a Shines at Her Olympic Debut in Figure Skating

Shin Ji-a, the standout figure skater from Sehwa High School, showcased her talent at her first Olympic stage. On February 20, 2026, Korean time, she performed in the womens singles free skating event at the Ice Skating Arena in Milan during the 2026 Milan-Cortina dAmpezzo Winter Olympics.
In the free skating segment, Shin Ji-a achieved a technical score (TES) of 75.05 and an artistic score (PCS) of 65.97, culminating in a total score of 141.02. When combined with her short program score of 65.66, she finished with a final total of 206.68 points. This was a personal best for her, surpassing her previous free skating score of 138.95 set at the 2024 International Skating Union (ISU) Junior World Championships. However, a jump mistake in her short program left her in 14th place overall, which was a disappointment for the young athlete.
Despite not reaching the podium, Shin Ji-a finished in 11th place in the free skating event, a commendable achievement at her first Olympic appearance. During her free skating program set to Liebestraum, she began beautifully, executing her first required element, a double Axel, perfectly. She also skillfully performed a triple Lutz-triple loop combination jump and a triple Salchow, showcasing her technical prowess.
Although she experienced a slight bobble during the landing of her triple loop jump, where she had to touch the fence with her hand, she maintained her composure and continued her performance without falling. Wrapping up the first half of her routine with a change foot combination spin (level 3), Shin Ji-a transitioned smoothly into the latter half of her performance. She executed a triple flip-double toe loop-double loop combination jump with stability, further impressing the judges.
Shin Ji-as Olympic journey may have ended without a medal, but her performances displayed her potential and artistry, promising a bright future in figure skating. Fans and supporters eagerly anticipate her next steps in her athletic career.
