KOSPI Breaks 5900 Mark Amid US Tariff Developments

The KOSPI index continued its upward rally, breaking through the 5900 mark for the first time during intraday trading, amid developments related to mutual tariffs set by the United States.
As of 9:15 AM today, the KOSPI recorded a rise of 97.6 points, or 1.68%, reaching 5906.13. At one point in the early trading session, it surged to 5931.86.
Although the US Supreme Court has put a halt to the tariff measures implemented during the Trump administration, President Trump signed an executive order imposing a 10% tariff on all imported goods worldwide, indicating plans to increase this to 15%.
In terms of market dynamics, individuals purchased a net of 414.6 billion won, while institutions bought a net of 58.5 billion won. However, foreign investors sold a net of 463 billion won.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Samsung Electronics saw a 3% increase, reaching as high as 197,000 won during the session. SK Hynix also experienced a 1.79% rise, hitting 98,000 won, continuing its trend of hitting record highs. Hyundai Motor Company increased by 3.54% as well.
The KOSDAQ index recorded a 0.52% increase, reaching 1159.95.
Meanwhile, the exchange rate of the Korean won against the US dollar started off at 1443 won, declining by 3.6 won and dipping to around 1439 won early in the trading session.
