The Korean womens short track team has reclaimed the Olympic relay title after eight years, solidifying their status as the worlds best. The team, consisting of veterans and newcomers, painted the ice of Milan gold, showcasing a perfect blend of experience and explosive talent.

On the 19th of February (KST), the team, made up of Choi Min-jung, Kim Gil-ri, No Do-hee, and Shim Suk-hee, competed in the final of the womens 3000m relay at the 2026 Milan-Cortina dAmpezzo Winter Olympics. They finished with a time of 4 minutes and 4.014 seconds, surpassing Italy (4:04.107) and Canada (4:04.314) to cross the finish line first. The womens 3000m relay has been a flagship event for Korea, winning gold in seven out of ten Olympic appearances since its introduction. After a disappointing silver medal finish at the previous Beijing Games, this gold medal has restored the pride of the Korean team as the leading nation in this discipline.

This victory marks the second gold medal for the Korean delegation at these Olympics, following the triumph of Choi Ga-on in the womens snowboard halfpipe. Overall, as of this date, Korea has secured a total of seven medals.

The golden run of the womens short track team was made possible by the resilience of Choi Min-jung, who served as a mental pillar for the squad. During the race, with 16 laps remaining, a Dutch competitor fell, causing a significant moment of chaos, but Choi managed to maintain her balance and quickly regained speed to continue chasing the pack.

With just five laps to go, Choi executed a critical maneuver. When Shim Suk-hee provided a strong push, Choi used the momentum to accelerate, overtaking Canada and moving into second place. The final leg was handled by Kim Gil-ri, who skillfully surpassed Italys veteran Arianna Fontana, completing Koreas golden race.

The legacy of the Korean womens short track team continues, as they follow in the footsteps of previous legends like Jeon I-kyung, Jin Sun-yu, and Park Seung-hee. The journey of these athletes demonstrates their unwavering spirit and commitment to excellence in the sport.
