Controversial Roblox Game Depicts Military Coup Scenario from 2024
A new game based on the emergency martial law situation from December 3, 2024, has been uploaded to Roblox, a popular gaming platform among teenagers. In this game, players take on roles such as citizens, police officers, and soldiers, engaging in confrontations involving shooting and throwing Molotov cocktails. Roblox has stated that it will remove any content that depicts political situations upon discovery.
According to recent reports, a game titled The Day of the National Assembly has been spreading within Roblox since early this month. Upon entering the game, players find themselves in front of the National Assembly building in Yeouido, Seoul, with background music featuring proclamations from the martial law command during the 2024 emergency.
Players can select roles such as citizens, police riot squads, special forces from the army, national intelligence agents, or government advisors. Teams are formed between citizens and government agents, allowing them to attack each other. For instance, a player in the citizen role can be shot at by a soldier when they approach the main entrance of the National Assembly. Citizens can collect trash to earn money, which they can then use to purchase Molotov cocktails or wooden sticks for attacking.
The game organizers have created a separate channel on the online messaging platform Discord to encourage players to join The Day of the National Assembly. Currently, there are about 400 members in this Discord channel, which requires a verification process for entry.
The organizers have also made a profit by selling in-game items. They have offered weapons inspired by North Korean military concepts, such as the AK47 rifle, PKM machine gun, and TT-33, in exchange for the in-game currency called Robux.
Additionally, a conservative group supporting former President Yoon Suk-yeol, known as Patriotic University, has also held a cyber rally in Roblox to support the martial law.
