KOSPI Index Surpasses 3950 Points, Approaching Historic 4000 Mark
The KOSPI index has made history by surpassing the 3950 mark for the first time, coming close to the elusive 4000-point milestone, known as Sacheonpi in Korea. According to the Korea Exchange, on the 24th, the KOSPI closed at 3941.59, up 96.03 points or 2.5% from the previous day. This remarkable rise was fueled by significant inflows from foreign and institutional investors, both contributing to the markets upward momentum. In the securities market, foreign and institutional investors were net buyers, with foreign investments amounting to 575.5 billion won and institutional investments reaching 1.4054 trillion won. In contrast, individual investors sold off stocks worth 2.03 trillion won.
Prominent stocks like Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix saw significant gains, rising 2.38% and 6.58%, respectively. Analysts attribute this surge to the positive performance of American AI semiconductor firms, particularly Intel, which announced an impressive third-quarter revenue of $13.65 billion, far exceeding expert expectations. Following this announcement, Intels stock surged over 7% in after-hours trading.
On the same day, the market capitalization of Samsung Electronics and its preferred shares reached 584.86 trillion won and 63.56 trillion won, respectively, while SK Hynixs market cap stood at 371.28 trillion won. The combined market capitalization of these three stocks surpassed 1000 trillion won for the first time, marking a significant milestone for both Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix as leading players in the semiconductor industry.
Meanwhile, the KOSDAQ index also showed positive performance, closing at 883.08, up 11.05 points or 1.27%. Institutional investors recorded a net purchase of 158.6 billion won, while individual and foreign investors sold stocks with net sales of 110.9 billion won and 38.3 billion won, respectively.
Despite the overall bullish sentiment, leading stock Alteogen experienced a decline, falling by 1.55%. The market remains dynamic as investors continue to react to the broader trends in both domestic and international markets.
