Yoon Hee-sook, a former lawmaker of the People Power Party (PPP) and former head of the Yeouido Institute, expressed her intent to run for the mayor of Seoul. On the 23rd, ahead of a scheduled PPP meeting, she stated, "Many are watching closely," emphasizing, "There is nowhere for lawmakers to hide under the sky, and now is the time to return to history."

In a post on social media, Yoon criticized the PPP for failing to greet travelers at Seoul Station during the recent Lunar New Year, just as they did during last years Chuseok. She pointed out that the party has become one that fears the public and hides during the holidays, stating, "Now is the time to properly reflect and innovate, which we have failed to do."

Yoon highlighted the need for reflection within the party, noting, "Some have colluded with extremist forces, while others have remained silent and indifferent to the crisis." However, she mentioned that small signs of change are emerging. Following the court ruling regarding former President Yoon Suk-yeol, several lawmakers, including Sung Il-jong, Lee Seong-gwon, Kim Jae-seop, and Kim Yong-tae, have individually expressed their reflections and apologies.

Particularly, after the partys defeat in the last presidential election, she pointed to Representative Yoon Sang-hyun as someone who stood out among those who refused to reflect during a critical moment. Yoon Sang-hyun publicly apologized to the people, holding a heartfelt reflection, despite being part of the group of 45 lawmakers who rushed to the executive office to prevent former President Yoons arrest last January. He acknowledged the misjudgment made at that time and faced the public.

Yoon further noted that many lawmakers have only spoken about severing ties with former President Yoon in private, criticizing the party leadership while remaining silent in public. She stressed that this silence has made it seem as if the Yoon Again faction has become the partys guiding principle.

As Yoon Hee-sook prepares for her campaign for mayor of Seoul, her comments highlight the urgent need for change and accountability within the People Power Party, paving the way for a potential shift in its political landscape.
