President Lee Jae-myung Meets Egyptian President Sisi to Strengthen Bilateral Ties
On the 20th of October (local time), President Lee Jae-myung of South Korea is set to hold a solo and expanded summit with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Cairo, Egypt, the second stop on his tour of four Middle Eastern and African nations. During this meeting, President Lee is expected to express his governments commitment to enhancing cooperation in the economic and cultural sectors between the two nations and seek support for his administrations policies regarding the Korean Peninsula.
In an op-ed published in the local media outlet Al Ahram, President Lee stated, "I am confident that the cooperation between our two countries in various fields such as economy, culture, and peace will create a better tomorrow than today." He emphasized, "I can proudly say that South Korea is Egypts most reliable partner in the ambitious Vision 2030 initiative." This Vision 2030 refers to President el-Sisis national vision aimed at elevating Egypt to among the top 30 countries in the world in terms of economy, national competitiveness, citizen happiness, and human resource development by the year 2030. President Lees mention of this initiative aims to secure opportunities for domestic companies in 12 areas including economic, energy, environmental, and urban development strategies.
Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1995, South Korea and Egypt have continued to foster cooperation, indicating a desire to diversify their collaboration and engage in substantial discussions. Notably, Samsung Electronics has a TV manufacturing plant in Beni Suef, while LG Electronics operates TV and washing machine production facilities in Sharqia. Additionally, Hanwha Aerospaces local production plant for K9 self-propelled howitzers is set to commence mass production next year.
As President el-Sisi has been in power since 2014, leading the nation for nearly 11 years, this meeting marks a significant step in reinforcing the ties between South Korea and Egypt, showcasing a mutual commitment to economic development and partnership.
