Graduation Season Brings Disappointment as Teacher Photos Go Missing from Yearbooks
As graduation season approaches, parents of elementary, middle, and high school students are expressing a mix of confusion and disappointment upon receiving their childrens yearbooks. Unlike in previous years, many yearbooks are missing individual photos of teachers, which has become a topic of discussion among parents.
In the past, it was common to see the photos of all staff members on a separate page in the yearbook, but this year, there are many schools where this page is conspicuously absent.
On online parenting forums and local community platforms, parents have been voicing their concerns, with comments such as, "There isn’t a single photo of a teacher in the yearbook," and, "I expected at least a group photo, but even our homeroom teachers face is missing."
One parent from Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, who recently celebrated their childs graduation, remarked, "There is no photo of the homeroom teacher in the class group picture or on the first page of the class section. All we see are the childrens photos, with no trace of the teachers face. Is this the norm nowadays?"
Another parent from Daejeon echoed similar sentiments, stating, "The principal and vice-principal have their pictures prominently displayed, yet not a single photo of the homeroom teacher or other educators who cared for the children throughout the year is included. Two years ago, my older child’s yearbook included photos of all staff members, but this year, even the homeroom teachers photo is missing."
Other parents expressed their disappointment as well, asking, "Shouldnt there at least be one photo to remember them by?" and lamenting, "We graduate without even knowing the face of the teacher we should be thankful to."
Conversely, some parents have expressed understanding regarding the omission of teacher photos. One parent mentioned that during the initial consultation at the start of the semester, they were asked whether it was okay to have the yearbook photos taken.
