Shinsegae Duty-Free and Fliggy Forge Partnership to Enhance Shopping Benefits for Tourists

On the 5th, Shinsegae Duty-Free announced that it has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Fliggy, an online travel platform under the Alibaba Group, to enhance shopping benefits for tourists visiting Korea.
Thanks to the recent global K-culture craze, Korea is emerging as a key tourist destination in Asia. In particular, the demand for individual tourists from China (FIT) is showing a clear recovery trend in the inbound market, and it appears that travel preparations based on online travel platforms are increasing rapidly. Shinsegae Duty-Free aims to capitalize on this trend by collaborating with Fliggy, which has 500 million members, to maximize its competitive edge in attracting Chinese tourists and accelerate the expansion of its global customer base.
Fliggy, established in 2016, is an online travel platform under the Alibaba Group. It offers over 25,000 flight routes both domestically and internationally in China, as well as more than 1.5 million hotel partnerships worldwide, and 8,000 theme park and tourist site products. The premium paid membership 88VIP, with approximately 56 million members, is considered a core customer group with high purchasing power and loyalty.
Through this partnership, Shinsegae Duty-Free plans to provide tiered membership and exclusive shopping benefits to Fliggy and 88VIP members. Additionally, the company will offer personalized messages at various stages of travel, allowing Fliggy customers to easily check and utilize the diverse benefits offered by Shinsegae Duty-Free before, during, and after their trip to Korea.
Kwak Jong-woo, Head of Marketing at Shinsegae DF, stated, "This partnership is an attempt to organically connect travel, IT, and shopping, providing greater convenience in shopping access and benefits throughout the travel journey for customers visiting Korea." He added that they aim to expand the membership linkage and joint partnership programs with Fliggy to offer differentiated global duty-free shopping experiences to premium travelers.
